SID BLOG by Oralia Washington The North Carolina Central University football team is off this weekend, but there is still plenty of action going on in Eagle land. Four of the school's teams will be in action this weekend. Bump, set, spike with three days of volleyball action. With a win under their belt against The Citadel, the Eagles are going for a sweep this weekend. The North Carolina Central University Volleyball Invitational is set to take place on Sept. 26-27, and on Sunday, Sept. 28, the Eagles will host Maryland Eastern-Shore, at 11 a.m. Friday's early matches will be played in the L.T. Walker Complex, while the 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday matches will move back to McLendon-McDougald Gymnasium. Admission is free. Teams from the South Western Athletic Conference (Alabama State), Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (South Carolina State and Hampton) and the Great West Conference (Houston Baptist) are participating in this year's invitational. This is the final multi-team event that the Eagles are hosting this season. NCCU will take on the Huskies of Houston Baptist at 1 p.m., and end with the nightcap game as NCCU will take on the Bulldogs of South Carolina State at 7 p.m. Saturday the Eagles will take on the Hornets of Alabama State at 2 p.m. and end the Invitational against the Lady Pirates of Hampton University at 6 p.m. Game set match... the men's tennis team will compete in the HBCU National Championships in Atlanta Sept. 25-27. HBCU from the SWAC, MEAC, SIAC, CIAA and other independent schools are participating in the event. Foooore... the men's golf team will take part in the Coca-Cola National Black Hall of Fame Alumni Invitational at the Brown Mills Golf Club. The tournament will be part of the 23rd annual National Black Alumni Hall of Fame Foundation weekend. Runners on your mark set... the men's and women's cross country teams will compete in the Greensboro Cross Country Invitational on Sept. 27. Both teams will look to improve upon their showings last week in the Asics/Winthrop Invitational, as the Eagles finished 12th and the Lady Eagles finished 13th.
