ROCK HILL, S.C. - North Carolina Central University sophomore outside hitter Alexis John was named to the Hilton Garden Inn Invitational All-Tournament Team after her performance in the tournament this weekend, earning her first career All-Tournament Team honor.

The sophomore from Columbia, Md. played in six sets and all three matches for the Eagles this weekend. She collected three kills on 12 attempts with only one error to hit .167 in the tournament. She averaged 0.50 kills and 0.58 points per game.

John made a big impact on the Eagles' defense with nine digs and one block in the tournament. She earned a career-high seven digs against Morgan State on Friday and added two more in the Eagles' matchup with Winthrop today. She averaged 1.50 digs and 0.17 blocks per game to close out the tournament.

The Eagles finished the tournament with a 0-3 record with losses to Butler, Morgan State and Winthrop. NCCU returns to action Sept. 18-19, where they will compete in the South Carolina State Spikefest in Orangeburg, S.C. The Eagles will face The Citadel in a rematch from earlier this year, followed by Charleston Southern, South Carolina State and Alabama State.
