NCCU Volleyball Remains Unbeaten Against MEAC Opponents with Sweep of WSSU

DURHAM, NC - The North Carolina Central University Eagles volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 win over the Lady Rams of Winston-Salem State University on Tuesday night in McLendon-McDougald Gym. The win improves NCCU's record to 18-10 overall, including an unblemished mark of 11-0 versus MEAC opponents.

In game one, the Lady Rams fought hard with the Eagles going point-for-point. WSSU's outside hitter Georgette Allen's kill gave the Lady Rams their last lead of the night, 18-17. A Nadia Hayes kill and a block assist from Hayes and Kai Wright edged the score in NCCU's favor, 20-18. The Eagles took over for good, and did not let up in games two or three.

NCCU senior outside hitter Shari Matthews had a match-high 13 kills, while teammate Anielle DaSilva contributed 12 kills. Rachel Lloyd led the team with 16 digs, while Matthews was second with 15 digs. Kristan Fields finished with 39 assists and five service aces for the Eagles.

Overall, NCCU notched 50 kills on 97 attempts with only 12 errors.

With the loss, WSSU drops its record to 4-20. Annika Barnwell led the Lady Rams with 12 kills.
