ORANGEBURG, SC - The North Carolina Central University Eagles earned their first win of the season on Friday afternoon. NCCU defeated the Bulldogs of The Citadel 3-2 (22-25, 25-18, 19-25, 25-18 and 15-13). The Eagles are competing in the South Carolina State University Spike-Fest in Orangeburg, SC. "Yes" exclaimed Head Coach Crawford-Crooks. The win comes after a 12 game losing streak on the season. NCCU (1-12) played a strong defensive game, holding The Citadel to a .135 hitting percentage and recording eight total team blocks. "Our team really push themselves in the game today," Said Crawford-Crooks, "This is a big weekend for us; we can beat the other teams that are here." Avaniki Campbell had another dominating match, as she recorded a team-high 17 kills and three service aces. Campbell had backup from other teammates as three recorded a double digit game. Shaina Pryor pounded out 13 kills while Nadia Hayes and Belinda Bencke-Biney, tallying 11 and 10 respectively. Ashley Shade had a team-high 55 assists and on the defensive side of the ball Rachel Lloyd led the team with 17 digs. Crawford-Crooks commented, "The Citadel is a good team they played well overall." The Citadel was led by Rachel Sanders and Tatum Jestila with 13 and 12 kills.
