DURHAM,N.C. - The Norfolk State University Spartans took both games of a doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon over the Lady Eagles of North Carolina Central University 6-1, and 10-0, at Thomas Brooks Park in Cary, N.C. In Game one, NCCU got on the board when Ashley Henderson reached on an error by the Spartans second baseman. The Lady Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the first, courtesy of an RBI double up the middle from Ashanti Stroud that sent Henderson home. NSU scored in the bottom-half of the frame to take the lead from the Eagles, 3-1. The Spartans scored three runs in the final innings to close out the victory. Kristen Schooler pitched for the Lady Eagles, as she struck out six and walked three. In Game two, NCCU's was led by Kristina Williams as she went two for two at the plate. NSU's Ashley Archer had three hits and two RBIs. NSU poured on six runs in the first two innings off Schooler, and the Spartans scored in every inning except the fifth. Micki Rodriguez of NSU struck out six Lady Eagles and gave up four hits to earn the shutout win. |
