LADY EAGLES WIN FIRST HEAD-TO-HEAD BOWLING MATCH

Nov. 18, 2007

MILLSBORO, DE - The North Carolina Central University women's bowling team got the 2007-2008 season rolling at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Hawk Classic in Millsboro, Delaware.

This was not only the first tournament of the year, but the Lady Eagles first journey into NCAA Division I competition since moving up in class from last season.

In their first head-to-head competition, the Lady Eagles defeated Bethune-Cookman University by a score of 737-706. NCCU received a pair of 171 games from freshmen Elizabeth Schuster (Levittown, N.Y.) and LaTia Blacknell (Durham, N.C.) to lead the team to victory.

The rest of the tournament did not go as well for the Lady Eagles, as they dropped the rest of their matches to fall to 1-10, placing 18th out of 20 teams.

Schuster bowled high games of 190 and 184 during the two-day event, averaging 159.17 to place 48th in the individual stadnings. Blacknell rolled a high game of 181 to place 51st with an average game of 155.33. NCCU senior Jebria Buntyn (Havelock, N.C.) helped the effort with her high game of 162.
