DURHAM, N.C. - Lindy's 2009 College Football Preview magazine has named North Carolina Central University senior wide receiver Will Scott and junior defensive lineman Teryl White as the tops on their side of the pigskin among Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) Independents. Lindy's annual publication tagged Scott as the FCS Independent Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, while White was chosen as the FCS Independent Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. Scott, a 6-2, 180-pound receiver out of Charlotte, N.C., topped NCCU last season with 45 receptions for 787 yards and five touchdowns. The rising senior averaged 17.5 yards per catch and 71.5 yards per contest a year ago. "Will Scott could be one of the most explosive receivers in the country," said NCCU football head coach Mose Rison. "He has great speed and can run past people. I look for him to have an outstanding senior year." White, a 6-4, 278-pound junior from Winston-Salem, N.C., led the Eagles with 11.0 tackles for a loss, including 3.0 sacks, and topped all linemen with 55 total takedowns. "A lot of school's missed out of Teryl White," Rison said. "He is athletic and can run. Teryl had an outstanding spring practice season and I think he is going to have a great year." The NCCU Eagles will begin their third season of Division I-FCS competition on Sept. 5 at Hampton University.
