March 27, 2009 DURHAM, N.C. - North Carolina Central University has announced the addition of four more recruits to the 2009 Eagles football program, including two linebackers, an offensive lineman and a quarterback. The two linebackers are Verick "Bubba" Harris, a freshman from Mercersburg Prep, and Antwan Pratt, a junior transfer from North Iowa Area Community College. Harris, a 6-0, 235-pound native of Baltimore, Md., played just five games at Mercersburg due to injury, but still amassed 45 tackles with a sack and three forced fumbles. He was called "a total difference-maker" by Mercersburg head coach Dan Walker. "An outstanding football player," NCCU head coach Mose Rison said of Harris. "He is physical, can run, and will flat out get after you." Pratt, a 6-3, 235-pound native of Columbus, Ohio, recorded 156 tackles (87 solo) in two seasons at North Iowa Area C.C. In 2007, he tallied 81 takedowns (53 solo). In 2008, he accumulated 75 tackles (34 solo), including 11 hits for a loss of 45 yards with two sacks for 30 yards lost. While at Bexley High School, Pratt was named to the Associated Press All-Ohio Second Team. His brother D.J., another linebacker, has also signed to play at NCCU. "A tremendous football player and very intelligent young man," said Rison about Antwan Pratt. "We feel he's going to be a starter for us in the fall." The latest addition to the offensive front is Jamil Williams, a 6-6, 295-pound tackle who runs the 40-yard dash in 4.9 seconds. Williams played at West Charlotte High School and finished his scholastic career at NC Tech, where he collected 15 pancake blocks. Williams is "an unpolished gem," according to NC Tech head coach Tim Newman. "He is physical, tough and athletic," Rison said of Williams. "He will be a great anchor on our line for a long time." A new signal caller for the Eagles is Eric Brown, who stands 6-3, 185 pounds and hails from St. Louis, Mo. Brown was a three-year starting quarterback at Hazelwood East High School with a combined record of 28-6 from 2006-08. He guided Hazelwood East to the 2008 5A State Championship title with an MVP performance, passing for 287 yards and three touchdowns, including the game-winning score as time expired. Brown is the school's all-time leader with 38 touchdown passes and ranks second in Hazelwood East history with 3,602 career passing yards.
"We found Eric late in the recruiting process, but we are very excited about having him at NCCU," said Rison. "He will have a chance to start for us down the road." The Eagles' total number of recruits now stands at 25, after inking 21 signees on national signing day (Feb. 4). |
