April 22, 2008 BALTIMORE, MD - Jamar Briscoe, a First-Team All-Baltimore Catholic League point guard out of Cardinal Gibbons High School, has signed a national letter of intent to attend North Carolina Central University. Briscoe, a 5-10, 155-pound native of Baltimore, Md., was a three-year starter for the Crusaders in the prestigious Baltimore Catholic League (BCL), amassing 1,148 points, 374 assists, 248 rebounds and 210 steals during his scholastic career. "Jamar is a scoring, athletic point guard that can come to NCCU and contribute to the program right away," said NCCU head coach Henry Dickerson. "He can handle the ball and he can shoot. He is a very gifted player. "He fits the mold of the type of student-athlete we are trying to bring to NCCU - good athlete, good student, good character," Dickerson said. As a senior, Briscoe (nicknamed "Deuce") was a McDonald's High School All-American nominee and runner-up BCL player of the year behind co-honorees Henry Sims of Mount St. Joseph (Georgetown recruit) and Sean Mosely of St. Frances Academy (Maryland recruit). Besides a third selection to the All-BCL Team, Briscoe has also been named First-Team All-MIAA (Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association), First-Team All-Baltimore City and Second-Team All-Metropolitan by the Baltimore Sun. During his senior campaign, Briscoe scored a career-high 36 points against BCL regular-season champion Mount St. Joseph. He also netted 29 points versus eventual BCL tournament champion St. Frances. Briscoe was also selected to play in the Charm City Challenge, where he scored a team-high 14 points to lead the Baltimore City All-Stars to victory over the Baltimore County All-Stars. |
