Futrell returns to the hardwood after sitting out last year's hoops season with an injury and competing in two N.F.L. camps (Miami and Atlanta) in the spring of 2007. Lettered four seasons on the NCCU football team, earning first-team all-conference honors as a wide receiver in 2006. Joined the Eagles basketball team after the start of the 2005-06 campaign when the need for post-players arose. 2005-06: In his first season of college basketball, averaged 10.0 points and 6.4 rebounds in 23 games, including 22 as a starter. Voted to conference all-rookie team in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA). Three-time CIAA Rookie of the Week selection (Dec. 10, Dec. 31, Jan. 7). Topped team in rebounding with 148 boards, an average of 6.4 caroms per game. Led team in rebounding in 10 games, including a career-high 17 boards against Columbus State University (Dec. 10, 2005). Recorded four double-doubles. Scored season-high 19 points with 10 rebounds at Columbus State (Dec. 30, 2005). High School (E.E. Smith H.S.): As a senior, named All-Conference after averaging 13.7 points and 6.2 rebounds to help the Golden Bulls win the regular season and tournament titles in the Two Rivers Conference, finishing with a 20-6 record. Voted 2002-03 First-Team All-Cape Fear Region by NCPrepSports. As a junior in 2001-02, averaged 12.7 points and 10.0 rebounds, helping the team to the Two Rivers Conference tournament title and a 24-5 overall record. Also earned all-conference honors as a quarterback, passing for 1,407 yards and 13 touchdowns as a senior. Led football team to the 4-A Eastern championship game and a 12-3 record. Played four seasons of football (2003-06) as a wide receiver and quarterback. As a senior, named to All-CIAA First Team and selected CIAA Receiver of the Week twice. Topped the CIAA with 909 receiving yards (75.8 yards per game) and placed second in receptions with 51 and touchdown catches with eight. Team won 11 games for the first time in school history, repeated as CIAA champions, and captured the Black College Football National Championship. As a junior on the gridiron, rushed for 224 yards and three touchdowns, passed for 172 yards and two touchdowns, and caught 11 passes for 128 yards and three touchdowns.
