DURHAM, N.C. - The North Carolina Central University athletic department announced the hiring of Reah Nicholson as Assistant Sports Information Director on Wednesday. She will serve as the primary contact for volleyball, women's basketball and softball.

Nicholson joins the Eagle staff following an 11-month stint as the Assistant Director of Media Relations in the athletic department at The Citadel in Charleston, S.C. While on the Bulldog staff, Nicholson was the primary contact for volleyball and men's basketball, while serving as the secondary contact for baseball.

"Reah has a strong educational foundation and quality Division I experience in sports information," said Kyle Serba, Associate Athletics Director for Media Relations. "Both of those assets will prove beneficial in our efforts to promote NCCU Athletics."

She earned a master's degree in journalism from the University of Memphis in May 2008, where she served as a graduate assistant in the journalism department for two years. She is a member of Kappa Tau Alpha honor society and The National Scholar's Honor Society.

During her graduate career at the University of Memphis, Nicholson spent two years as a game day assistant in the athletic media relations office. During the spring of 2007, she interned in the media relations office, where she was responsible for men's soccer and men's and women's golf.

Aside from working in the media relations office, Nicholson was the editor, designer and coordinator of the M Club Magazine, a newsletter for the M Club athletic booster organization. As a volunteer for the M Club, Nicholson designed and administered a survey to M Club members in order to gather demographic and psychographic information. She used the information to design a user-friendly newsletter, increasing M Club membership by 15 percent.

In the summer of 2007, she was a league journalism intern for the Florida Collegiate Summer League, where she oversaw five journalism interns. Her duties included writing and designing all league publications, such as media guides and yearbooks, writing feature stories and writing articles for The Sanford Herald, a bi-weekly newspaper based in Sanford, Fla.

Prior to Memphis, Nicholson worked as Box Office Supervisor for Bobcats Sports and Entertainment, where she oversaw over 50 part-time ticket sellers. Before joining the Bobcats organization, Nicholson volunteered in the University of South Carolina Athletic Media Relations office and was an academic coach for the men's and women's track and field teams.

In May 2005, Nicholson earned a bachelor's degree in parks, recreation and tourism management with an emphasis in sport management from Clemson University. As a sophomore, she was a member of the Clemson Women's Track and Field Team, where she participated in the long jump and triple jump. She spent her freshman year as a student manager for the Clemson Women's Basketball Team.

She was a media relations volunteer for the SEC Women's Basketball Tournament in 2005 and spent the summer of 2004 as a public relations intern for the Washington Mystics. She interned for the Charlotte Sting during the summer of 2003 in the basketball operations department.
