Kevin M. Holloway - NCCU Athletics Donor of the Month for January 2010.

Jan. 8, 2010

Each month, the NCCU Department of Athletics recognizes one of its dedicated supporters and generous contributors with the naming of the NCCU Athletics "Donor of the Month."

The NCCU Athletics Donor of the Month for January 2010 is Kevin M. Holloway, a proud 1975 NCCU graduate who serves as Vice President of US Commercial Marketing for The Monsanto Company in St. Louis, Missouri. Holloway was also inducted into the NCCU Athletic Hall of Fame in 2006.

Here is what he had to say in response to a few questions about giving to NCCU Athletics:

1) Why do you contribute to/support NCCU Athletics?

I support NCCU Athletics because I believe that a strong athletic program provides positive publicity and interest for the university. It also compliments the academic standards, attracting students from a much larger population. Typically, when schools win championships alumni contribute more and individuals who would not otherwise know NCCU exists become familiar with what the school has to offer.

Another reason that I contribute is because I find it frustrating that so many who have benefited from the NCCU experience (i.e. degree, friends, spouse, etc.) don’t give back to support their school. Anything you give can help make the difference for another student to receive a great education. My daughters are the third generation graduating from NCCU.

2) Why do you think it is important that others contribute/support NCCU Athletics?

Every university is struggling to secure adequate funding, which means HBCU’s aren’t doing any better. Purchasing an “All-Access Card” helps! For me it is about helping my school help a student get a degree and hopefully they will repeat the cycle of giving after graduation.
